Sports success celebrated

Considerable achievements in sport were celebrated at the academy's second annual Sports Awards.

More than half our students (484) attended extra-curricular PE on 1,357 different occasions, the audience of children, staff and families were told.

Principal Mr Hermiston said it was a special evening to celebrate students' "dedication, discipline, and determination."

"Sport is so much more than just competition," he said. "It's about character. It teaches us resilience—how to bounce back after a tough loss. "It teaches teamwork—how to trust and rely on others. And it teaches discipline—the value of hard work and the reward of persistence. Values we hold dear at Louth Academy. "In a world that is moving faster every day, sport grounds us. "It reminds us of the importance of health, balance, and community. Our students are not only learning how to win—they're learning how to lead. "To every student here tonight: you've pushed your limits, made sacrifices, and represented our school with pride. We are incredibly proud of your achievements. "To the staff and families—thank you for your endless support and encouragement. You are a big part of every success we are celebrating. "Congratulations to all of our award recipients. Continue to chase excellence, both in sport and in life."

Curriculum Leader of PE Mr Prendergast said it was an honour to present the awards in front of such "wonderful students and colleagues".

He thanked the senior leadership team who "set up our students for success."

"Without their backing and deep understanding of how sport and competition can enrich and benefit a student's experience and help shape them as young people, we wouldn't be standing here today," Mr Prendergast said.

"I would also like to thank my wonderful PE staff team. They have put so much time and hard work into our students through numerous after school clubs and fixtures all the way through the Academic year.

"Again, without that willingness and dedication to give up so much of their time and efforts after school to enrich our students' lives, this success would not have been possible.

"Thank you to the students who have participated in after school clubs and fixtures this year to really help us drive Louth Academy Sport and PE in the direction we want it to go.

"To see the power in which sport can impact so many of students' lives is heartwarming.

"Thank you to parents, for allowing your son/daughter to compete for their school, and pick them up around your busy schedules, buying them new boots and shin pads all the time!"

In his second year as Curriculum Leader, he wondered how they would top last year's success.

"We have continued in that upwards trajectory of sporting success at Louth Academy. I believe we have a reputation amongst other schools, not only in the district but across the county.

"We do not want to stop there on our quest to becoming a academy of sporting excellence."

He highlighted, for the second successive year, the academy had been awarded The School Games Gold Mark in recognition of its efforts to increase participation.
