Thrilling Football Stadium Trip Ends With Lionesses’ Euro 2022 Match Win

Louth Academy students arrive at Old Trafford for the opening match of Euro 2022.

Twenty eight Louth Academy students took part in a spectacular trip to the Etihad Stadium, home of Premier League champions Manchester City, before crossing the city to rivals Manchester United, for the opening game of the Women’s Euro 2022 competition.

The students, in Years 7-10, were given a behind-the-scenes look at what happens on a Premier League match day at Manchester City, visiting the dressing rooms and even the press room.

They then cheered on the England Lionesses in the opening match of Euro 2022, after witnessing a thrilling opening ceremony. Students and staff were excited to see the England team, who beat Austria 1-0 in front of a crowd of 68,000, a record for a UEFA Women’s Football match.

Tim Lowe, Curriculum Leader for PE at Louth Academy, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to explore two of the best sporting arenas in England on the same day. I am sure the whole experience will live long in their memories, and, hopefully, this has inspired them all to pursue their own sporting talents.”
